Location
Dresden is Germany's fourth-largest city in terms of area, after Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne. The city currently has about 515,000 residents, living in about 255,000 households. After Berlin, Dresden is the most dynamic location in the new federal states. In addition to its function as a government and administrative center, the city's prominent position as an electrical engineering and microelectronics center is of particular importance for its economic development and outlook. Infineon, AMD a large number of suppliers and associated research and development institutions shape Dresden's image as "Saxony's Silicon Valley."
Another major location-based factor is the city's culture. The attractive scenery, impressive monuments such as the Semperoper, rich art collections such as the Grüne Gewölbe, as well as an ample supply of cultural events, make Dresden a major tourist destination, with over 6 million visitors each year.
The Trachau neighborhood is part of the Pieschen district in northwestern Dresden, which has almost 48,000 residents. Downtown Dresden is quickly reached via Leipziger Straße, a well-maintained road or by tram. All necessary infrastructure is present.

By mid-2002, the development plan procedure had reached the publication: only a resolution from the Municipal Council was needed to render it final and binding. After the disastrous flooding in August 2002, however, an ordinance was passed which temporarily classified the area as a flooding zone, so that the development plan procedure is now suspended. This status will be lifted through the development and implementation of flood safety plans, which have to be coordinated between the municipal, state and federal governments. The agencies involved have devoted increasing attention to the necessary planning since decided that implementation of the flood safety projects affecting this area.
